“Best Arena in the State of Hockey”

ATSR partnered with the City of Marshall to create the Southwest Minnesota Regional Sports Center, a 77,800 square foot facility that has become a premier destination for athletes and families across the region. At the heart of this complex is the Red Baron Arena & Expo, which WCCO Channel 4 viewers voted “Best Arena in the State of Hockey” – a testament to the thoughtful design and community impact of this project.

A Complete Sports Experience Under One Roof

The Red Baron Arena features two versatile indoor ice sheets that serve the community year-round, hosting everything from youth hockey leagues to regional tournaments and community exhibitions. We designed team locker rooms to accommodate multiple events simultaneously, along with two meeting rooms and a welcoming Club Room where families and teams can gather.

With seating for approximately 1,400 spectators, the arena creates an exciting atmosphere for players while ensuring comfortable viewing for fans. The flexible design allows the space to transform for different events, maximizing the community’s investment.

Beyond the Rink: Complete Athletic Complex

The sports center extends far beyond hockey, featuring four natural turf baseball fields with professional-quality lighting for evening games and tournaments. An elevated observation area gives families and scouts great sightlines, while our custom-designed concessions building ensures visitors have everything they need for a full day at the complex.

Securing the Vision Through Partnership

ATSR worked closely with Marshall to navigate the state funding process, preparing comprehensive documentation including renderings, detailed plans, cost estimates, and project schedules for the Minnesota State Legislative Pre-Design Manual. Our thorough preparation helped secure legislative approval and funding for this transformative project.

We designed the entire facility to meet Minnesota’s B3 Sustainable Guidelines, ensuring the complex operates efficiently while minimizing environmental impact – a responsible approach that saves the community money over the long term while supporting Minnesota’s sustainability goals.
